Description

Laveddon Mill is a watermill built in the late 19th century on earlier walls. It features local rubble with some granite dressings, slate hanging on studwork at the upper part of the gable ends, and a dry slate roof along with a lean-to roof. The building has a rectangular plan, with walls raised in the late 19th century and a lean-to store added in front around the same time. It stands two storeys tall with a single-storey lean-to and has a two-window range. The small window openings are set under the main eaves, with the right-hand opening blocked. Inside the lean-to, there are two loading doorways, and a wide doorway left of centre has a ledged door to its right, with some blocked openings to the right of the doorway.

On the left-hand side, there is a repaired overshot wheel in a rubble wheel pit, a latticed iron window left of centre, and a 12-pane casement window at the gable. The rear of the mill is built into the bank and features a wide central doorway that provides access to the "stone" floor, along with a latticed iron window positioned low on the right. Inside, the mill has a late 19th-century floor and a scissor-truss and collar-roof structure. The complete machinery is in good condition, featuring wooden cogs to drive the wheels, with stones housed within the original casing and a horizontal shaft equipped with four iron belt wheels.
