Description
Kirland Manor House is a farmhouse dating to around 1740, representing a remodelling or rebuilding of an earlier structure. The front facade is faced with incised stucco over a rubble stone core, while the remainder of the building is of rubble construction. It features a very steep, slightly sprocketed dry slate roof, along with an outshut roof and a parallel roof to the rear, topped by brick end stacks. The plan consists of a single-depth range with a rear central stair projection, extended with outshuts that link the front range to a single-storey building at the rear, likely dating to the 18th century or earlier.
The two-storey, slightly asymmetrical front has a six-window arrangement with a central doorway. The windows are primarily late 19th-century twelve-pane hornless sashes, with some late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes or replacements. A mid-to-late 19th-century nine-pane panelled door is set within the remains of an original or early 19th-century porch, now covered by a 20th-century hood on stanchions.
Inside, 18th-century features are visible, including moulded plaster ceiling cornices in the entrance hall, a chamber above, and a parlour on the right (coved to the chamber, featuring a full entablature in the parlour). There are arched cupboards flanking the large parlour fireplace, a similar arch to the rear of the entrance hall, a dogleg staircase with stick balusters, slate-flagged floors in four ground-floor rooms, a two-panel door, a double-planked door, and original pegged roof trusses. Some 19th-century features are also present.
