Description
St Leonard's House is a fairly large town house built in the late 18th century, with early 19th-century features. The front is finished in incised stucco, featuring vermiculated quoins and window surrounds on the ground floor that have stepped voussoirs. The door and first-floor window architraves are moulded. The house has a steep rag slate roof with a wooden modillion eaves cornice and a central triangular pediment. It has a deep plan that includes a rear wing on the left side. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical front that has five windows arranged in a 2:1:1 bay pattern. The windows are late 19th-century two-pane horned sashes. The central bay projects forward and features a wide coved and moulded round-arched doorway with a spoked fanlight above a six-panel door that has flush-beaded bottom panels. At the rear, there is a deep late 18th-century three-storey wing with many old windows. There is also a carriageway that includes a 17th-century granite column pier on the right, which is set into the wall of No. 6 (not included). The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
