Description

The gate pier, dating from the late 18th century, is located at the south-east corner of No. 36 Church Street in Oswestry. It is constructed from painted sandstone ashlar and has a rectangular shape. The pier features a fluted band with a moulded oval disc above it, and a moulded capping that is topped with a decorative urn adorned with grotesque faces. A spur stone is also present, although the gates are missing. This gate pier is one of a pair, with the other being listed as item no 15/47.
