Description
This is a barn and shelter shed located about 50 yards north of Bury of Hope Farmhouse, dating from the mid- to late 18th century. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, sitting on a rubble base, with brick walling at the north end and a plain tiled roof. It features five bays aligned north to south, with a central wagon bay that has opposed cart entries and double doors. Inside, there are three rows of square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, and four intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses supported by two struts, along with two tiers of trenched purlins. The shelter shed, which is attached to the south end of the barn, consists of five bays and is open on the west side, with its roof supported by arch-braced timber posts. The fourth and fifth bays of the shelter shed have been blocked. This building is included for its group value with Bury of Hope Farmhouse.
