Description
Bury of Hope Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with possible earlier origins and mid-19th century alterations. The building features a combination of part coursed sandstone rubble and part handmade brick, with ashlar dressings and a stucco finish. It has a plain tiled roof with a central brick ridge stack and a brick stack at the west end.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with six bays, including end quoins. There are ashlar and three-course brick bands between the main storeys and a dentilled eaves cornice at the front. The windows are adorned with ashlar hoodmoulds that have returns and ashlar sills. On the ground floor, there are three 16-pane sash windows, a narrow rectangular 4-pane sash window, and a 19th-century canted bay window featuring a central 12-pane sash. The first floor contains four 16-pane sashes and two narrow rectangular sashes.
The main entrance, located in the fifth bay, is highlighted by a flat moulded ashlar canopy supported by moulded ashlar brackets, leading to a panelled door with a transom light that has three glazing bars.
