Description

This barn, located about 80 yards north-east of Castle Farmhouse, is likely from the early 18th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, resting on a rubble base, and features a corrugated asbestos roof. The structure consists of nine framed bays arranged east to west, with wagon bays and opposing cart entries in the third and seventh bays from the west end.

Inside, the framing includes four rows of square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate. The roof is supported by collar and tie-beam trusses at the gable end, which have two collars, struts, and a V-strut at the apex. The intermediate trusses are mainly of the tie-beam type, featuring two pairs of raking struts, and there are two tiers of trenched purlins.
