Description
Castle Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed from handmade brick, featuring some blue brick dressings and a moulded stone plinth. The building has a two-span plain tiled roof with brick end stacks, the left stack displaying offsets and a blue brick diaper pattern.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar. It features a three-course band at the first floor level and a two-course band at the attic level, both adorned with blue brick header decoration. A modillion eaves cornice is present at the front. The structure has three bays, with windows that have gauged flat heads and retain their mullioned-and-transomed frames, complete with moulded architraves.
The central entrance is highlighted by a shell hood supported on moulded brackets, along with a moulded architrave and a 20th-century door. On the right side of the house, there is a blocked doorway, above which is a Norwich Union fire insurance mark. At the rear, there is a 19th-century service wing and 20th-century lean-to additions on both side elevations. The interior is noted for retaining its original staircase.
