Description
Lower House is a house, probably built in the early 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. It features part timber framing with painted brick infill, and is refaced in painted brick and part painted rubble. The stone tiled roof is laid in diminishing courses and has brick end stacks with offsets. The house is two storeys high and has two bays, with the framing exposed at the north end. There are three and a half rows of panels from the sill to the original wall-plate, plus an additional row above. The altered collar and tie-beam truss includes struts.
On the east front elevation, all windows are 3-light 19th-century casements with cambered heads. The central entrance features a flat timber canopy supported by shaped brackets and a 6-panelled door, four of which are raised and fielded. There are 19th-century wings at the rear of both bays. The house is located next to Nos 10, 11, and 12 on the south side of Church Road and is included for its group value.
