Description

Bridge House is a house dating from around 1600, with some parts rebuilt in the late 19th to early 20th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble, featuring some brick dressings and pebbledashed timber-framing, topped with a concrete-tiled roof and brick ridge stacks that have cogged cap courses. The building is L-shaped, with the main range rebuilt and consisting of four bays aligned north to south. The south end bay is likely a later addition and includes brick dressings. The original cross-wing remains at the north end, probably consisting of three framed bays, and has an external rubble chimney with offsets and a rebuilt brick stack on the north side.

The house is two storeys high, with the framing not visible from the outside. The north wing features a jettied first floor on part of the north side and at the east end, supported by shaped brackets. The east front elevation displays windows that all have broad moulded architraves and moulded sills. The main range includes two 3-light casements and a 2-light casement with rusticated lintels on the ground floor, as well as a loophole; on the first floor, there are four 2-light casements and a small rectangular window. The former main entrance at the northern end features an archway with a four-centred head and a recessed blocked doorway with sidelights. The main entrance is now located at the south end and has a 20th-century doorcase.
