Description

Oakwood is a house dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick and rendered infill on a rubble base, along with some sections of rubble and painted brick replacement walling. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and has brick ridge stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with the main range consisting of one framed bay aligned north to south, featuring a large chimney. At the south end, there is a cross-wing made up of three framed bays. The house has two storeys, with the framing displaying four rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and some solid upper corner braces. The first floor and gable of the cross-wing jetty out at the east end. The first floor is partly underbuilt with rubble and includes a moulded bressummer and a central shaped bracket.

On the east front elevation, the main part of the house has a ground floor three-light casement window with a plank weathering and a first floor two-light casement window. The gable end of the cross-wing features a ground floor two-light leaded casement window, an original three-light mullioned window on the first floor, and the main entrance which has a 20th-century door. Additionally, there is a first floor window on the south side that retains an original moulded sill. A 20th-century wing of two storeys is located at the centre of the south elevation.
