Description

This building is a storage facility located about 100 yards west-north-west of The Grange. It dates back to the 14th century and has undergone some later alterations. Constructed from sandstone rubble with dressings, the building is partly weatherboarded and features a tiled roof. It has a rectangular plan that is roughly aligned north-east to south-west and consists of one storey with a loft.

On the north elevation, there is a small blocked chamfered square opening located to the right of the center, along with a lean-to extension at the right-hand end. The south elevation features a blocked moulded doorway with a two-centred head on the left side. The east gable has weatherboards, a central loft opening, and double-leaved doors. Inside, there is a truss supported by two pairs of panelled raking struts extending from the tie to the principals. This former gatehouse is recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
