Description

The remains of Wigmore Abbey are a significant historical site, now in ruins. The abbey dates from the late 12th century and 14th century and was founded by Hugh Mortimer for the Augustinian Canons of St Victor of Paris. The structure is built from coursed sandstone rubble and includes fragments of the nave and chancel, along with the gable wall of the south transept. The ruins are designated as a scheduled Ancient Monument, with County number 135.
