Description
Church Cottage is a cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber-frame structure with lath-and-plaster infill, topped with an asbestos slate roof. The cottage has an external sandstone end stack with a brick shaft. It consists of two structural bays aligned from west-south-west to east-north-east and is one storey high with an attic.
On the north elevation, there is one window, which is a 2-light mid-20th century steel casement. The ground floor has two square windows, and there is a 17th-century doorway on the right-hand side with a slightly cambered head and a ledged door. The west gable features an external bread oven next to the stack. There is an entry through a glazed porch on the south side.
Inside, the cottage has a flat oak four-centred lintel above the fireplace, which also includes ovolo moulded stone jambs. The ceiling beams are stop-chamfered with lamb's tongue stops.
