Description

This milestone and milepost, located at National Grid Reference SO 400714, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century for the milestone and late 19th century for the milepost. The milestone is made of sandstone and features a cambered head with incised lettering that reads: "TO HEREFORD 22 MILES." The milepost is crafted from cast iron, with angled sides and a top that rises to a semi-circular headed back-plate. It has raised lettering that states: "WIGMORE DISTRICT COUNCIL" around the curve of the back-plate, along with "HEREFORD 22," "KNIGHTON 22," and "LEOMINSTER 11."
