Description
This building is an outbuilding located to the west of the former Methodist Chapel in Dale Abbey. It is likely the gatehouse of Dale Abbey, which was later converted into a cowhouse or stable with a loft above. The structure dates from the medieval period and the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and red brick, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys, with gritstone on the west and south sides, while the upper parts are made of brick on the east and north sides. There are buttresses at the southeast, southwest, and northwest corners. A doorway is located on the east side, with a 19th-century casement window above it. There is also a loft doorway on the north side and a blocked opening on the south side. Additionally, this building is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
