Description
The Abbey Ruins in Dale Abbey are the remnants of a Premonstratensian Canons house founded around 1200, with significant structures dating from the late 13th century. The ruins are constructed from rubble gritstone and ashlar. The most prominent feature is the great arch of the chancel's east window, which has a finely moulded arch and signs of geometrical tracery, likely resembling those found at Newstead Abbey and the Angel choir at Lincoln. Additionally, part of the northwest return wall remains, including a section of the jamb of an arch. To the west, the footings of the chancel and transepts are partially preserved. The site is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
