Description

Cold Green Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with 20th-century additions and alterations. It features a timber frame, with parts made of wattle-and-daub and painted brick infill, and has a tiled roof. The house is designed in an L-shape, with the main block aligned north to south and facing west, and a cross-wing at the northern end. There is a through-passage that is now blocked, and a large axial stack at the junction with the cross-wing, along with another axial stack to the right of center. Additional structures have been added to the south, and there is a lean-to on the cross-wing. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic.

The west front displays the gable end of the cross-wing to the left, featuring irregular window placements. There is a 2-light casement window in the gable, a single light, and a 3-light window on the first floor. To the left, there is a 3-light window in the lean-to, and a projecting window with a hipped roof. The main range to the right has three windows with one, two, and three lights, along with a similar projecting window with a hipped roof and a small 2-light window to the right of the gabled porch, which has a panelled door.

The framing consists of four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with diagonal bracing below the tie-beam of the gable end of the cross-wing. The structure is largely complete, featuring swept V-struts in the gable, which retains fragments of bargeboard with scrolled vine decoration. There are also traces of a former window surround with ovolo moulding at the rear of the cross-wing.
