Description
Temple Court is a farmhouse with an 18th century core that was remodeled in the mid-19th century, possibly incorporating earlier materials. The building is constructed of brick with a sandstone plinth and part sandstone rubble on the rear wing, topped with slate roofs. It has an irregular plan, featuring two rooms deep with parallel roof ranges and an additional wing at the rear. The central entrance is flanked by end stacks.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with attics and cellars. The south front has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two windows on the outer sides and one in the center, which is slightly forward and features a gable. The windows are glazing bar sash windows with cambered heads. A forward-projecting central gabled porch includes a semi-circular headed doorway, a decorative fanlight, and an inner doorway with a panelled recess, overlight, and half-glazed door.
The stone north wing is believed to date back to medieval times, although there is little evidence to support this claim. The house is situated on a moated site that was formerly occupied by a preceptory of the Knights Templar.
