Description
There are two Hardwick memorials located approximately 5 meters south of the nave of the Church of St John the Baptist. The first is a chest tomb from 1806, made of sandstone ashlar with a rectangular plan. It features balusters on either side of a fielded inscription panel, and has an hourglass encircled by a serpent and skull on the short sides. The second memorial is a pedestal tomb from 1842, also constructed of sandstone ashlar. It has a moulded plinth and capping with an urn finial, a frieze below the capping adorned with florettes, and a band of fluting surrounding the inscription panel, which has a shaped inset and florettes in the spandrels.
