Description

There are two chest tombs located at the southeast end of the Church of St John the Baptist, next to the main footpath. These tombs date from the late 18th century and are made of ashlar stone. The lower tomb on the west side features raised inscription side panels with bolection moulded surrounds, which are flanked by squat pilasters with bulbous bases. At the west end, there is a scrolled cartouche panel that includes a memento mori. The taller tomb on the east side has large moulded inscription side panels with recessed deeply concave ends.
