Description
Acacia Cottage is a house located on High Street in Colsterworth, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of squared limestone rubble, with ashlar dressings and quoins, and features yellow brick. The 20th-century addition has pantile roofs with raised stone coped gables and two brick stacks.
The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-bay front. To the left, there is a projecting lean-to single-storey 20th-century addition that contains the entrance door. Next to it is a small light set in a moulded stone surround, followed by a glazing bar sash window set in a larger blocked opening. On the first floor, there is a central small light in a moulded surround, flanked by two large blocked openings. The roof features a single gabled two-light dormer with rendered cheeks and leaded lights.
To the left of the main structure is a lower two-storey single-bay wing from the 17th century. The rear elevation has an off-centre half-glazed door with a plain overlight, next to a rectangular bay window with a plain sash on the left, and a pair of 20th-century French windows to the right, followed by another bay window. Both bay windows are topped with hipped slate roofs. On the first floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows with splayed lintels.
Inside, there is a dogleg staircase with turned balusters, a moulded rail, and an open string. The ceilings feature moulded and chamfered beams, and there is a moulded fireplace bressumer. In the lower 17th-century wing, there is a stopped and chamfered ceiling beam along with exposed joists.
