Description
49 High Street is a house built in 1703, which was raised and refronted in 1756, with some minor alterations in the 19th century. The front is made of ashlar, while the gable and rear are constructed from coursed limestone rubble. It has a concrete tiled roof with a single brick gable stack. The building is two stories high with a three-bay front. The central entrance features a 19th-century planked door with a fanlight above, set within a semi-circular stepped keystone arch, and is flanked by single margin lights. On the first floor, there is a blocked central window with single margin lights on either side. All windows have flat lintels with raised keystones. At the top of the right-hand gable, there is an inscribed datestone reading "JG 1756". Inside, the house retains a simply stopped and chamfered beam on the ground floor, along with an attic beam dated 1703.
