Description
This barn, located about 60 yards west of Upper Buckenhill Farmhouse, likely dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and is timber-framed with woven and weatherboarded infill. The gable to the north is made of breeze blocks, and the roof is tiled. The barn has three plus one bays that are aligned roughly north to south.
The west elevation includes a full-height cart entry in the second bay from the left. The exposed side framing consists of three panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, with woven infill in the top row of panels. Unusually, many of the other panels have recessed weatherboarding. Inside, the threshing floor has high cills and braces from the entry posts. The trusses on either side of the threshing floor have angle struts connecting the ties to the principals, and there are two posts from the ties to the collars that support raking struts. This barn is included for its group value.
