Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters southwest of Lower Farmhouse, dates from around 1700 and has seen later additions and alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a red sandstone block plinth, topped with an asbestos sheet roof. The barn has two doorways on the left, one to the left of center, and a wide threshing entrance that originally had opposing double doors, which are still present at the rear. There are five eaves hatches, including a pair above the threshing entrance.
Inside, the framing is visible, showcasing tall vertical posts with long straight tension braces. The bay partitions are weatherboarded on low red brick walls, combining both long straight and curved braces. The roof is a single-purlin design with six unequal bays supported by queen-post trusses; the right gable end features a collar and V-struts from the collar. The left bay contains a loft above 19th-century cowstalls, and there is a slate floor in the threshing bay. The barn is included for its group value with the surrounding buildings.
