Description
Lower Farmhouse is a disused farmhouse located in Cockshutt, English Frankton. It was built in the late 18th century and has had later additions and alterations. The structure is made of red brick and features a hipped slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and has a dentilled eaves cornice. The front of the building has three windows, with mid-19th century six-paned horned sashes that have contemporary tile cills, set in 18th century segmental-headed openings on the ground and first floors; the lower left window is blind. There are also three-light 18th century leaded casements directly below the eaves, with the left window being blind. The farmhouse has an integral stack at the centre of the back wall and integral lateral stacks on both the left and right sides.
At the rear, there is a lower brick service range that forms a T-plan, which is set at right angles to the main building. This service range features raking struts from the tie beam to the principal rafters at the gable end and includes a hoist above a window in the gable, as well as a door on the first floor. The right corner of the building has a slightly jowled wall post. The interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in January 1987, but it is likely to be of interest.
