Description

The cowhouse and linhay, likely built in the late 17th century and extended in the mid-19th century, are located adjoining Wood House Farmhouse and granary to the west. Constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, the buildings feature some weatherboarding and machine-tiled roofs. The cowhouse consists of approximately five bays and two levels, with openings that all have cambered heads. The main south elevation includes three ground floor windows, a rectangular light, a loft opening, and four doorways, three of which have stable doors. The south gable end is weatherboarded. The linhay is attached to the west end of the cowhouse, connected by a small passageway that has a steeply-pitched roof and a south doorway. The linhay features gable-end parapets and consists of two bays, with most openings on both levels now blocked with boarded infill. There is a double doorway in the left bay. The cowhouse is adjacent to the west gable end of the granary. This structure is included for its group value.
