Description

The cowhouses, stables, granary, and cartshed located immediately north of Northwood Farmhouse date from the early 19th century and have undergone later alterations. They are constructed from coursed and squared large stone blocks featuring herringbone tooling, topped with a plain tile roof and a stone block ridge stack. The buildings are arranged in a roughly L-shaped plan, with the west range oriented north-south and facing east, while the north range is aligned east-west and faces south.

The west range consists of a two-storey, three-bay cowhouse on the left and a low single-storey, three-bay cowhouse on the right. The left cowhouse features two-light chamfered mullioned windows on the first floor and four inserted bottom-hung casements on the ground floor, along with stable-type doors on the right, left, and centre. The right cowhouse has four bottom-hung casements, with the inner two flanking a central door and the outer two inserted into blocked doorways.

The north range includes a two-bay stable and granary on the left, with the granary situated above, and a slightly lower single-bay stable extension on the right. The stable and granary have two ground floor doors, with steps on the right leading to a granary door, and a two-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor to the left. The stable extension features a top-hung casement. A cartshed is located at the rear in the west angle. Northwood Farmhouse itself is not included in this listing.
