Description
Ivies and three urns are located in the garden to the south of a house built in the early to mid-19th century, which may include some earlier materials. The house is constructed of coursed squared and dressed sandstone and features a clay tile roof with shaped tile patterns, fleur-de-lys ridge tiles, and coped verges on kneelers, with a finial on the eastern verge. There is a coursed, squared, and dressed stone ridge stack near the center and an integral end stack to the west. The building is designed in a vernacular revival style, with a main range to the south and a parallel rear range to the north. It is two stories high with an attic and has three windows featuring chamfered mullions and surrounds, with patterned glazing bar windows; the ground floor windows have three lights, while the first floor windows have two lights. To the left of center is a panelled door with a cambered and chamfered head, chamfered jambs, and a bracketed hood. A gabled dormer to the left of center includes a four-pane casement and a coped verge on kneelers. The east gable displays a decorative lozenge light, and the east gable of the rear range has a cambered doorway to the left and a fixed light patterned glazing bar window to the right, both under the same dripstone. Inside, there are stopped and chamfered ceiling beams, an inglenook fireplace, and a common rafter roof supported on single chamfered purlins. This building is one of several in Ellastone Parish of a similar date and style, likely erected by the Calwich Abbey Estate. In the front garden, there are three inverted bell-shaped urns from the 18th century, featuring concave bases, gadrooned bowls, and enriched rims.
