Description
Church View is a house dated 1676, with alterations and additions made later. It is constructed of roughly squared and dressed stone blocks with a clay tile roof, coped verges, shaped kneelers, and a brick stack to the west. The house originally comprised two bays; the western bay is larger, containing the main room with a large inglenook fireplace to the west, while the eastern bay houses the staircase. There's a lobby entry to the front. The house is two storeys high, with a gable-lit attic. The front has one window – modern casements on the right – and a half-glazed door to the left. A one-storey brick and sandstone extension with a clay tile roof and integral end stack is attached to the left, featuring a small-pane sliding window on the ground floor and a gabled dormer with a small-pane sliding window above. A single-storey brick extension with ashlar dressings and a clay tile roof is attached to the right, with a door to the left and a small-pane window in the center. The east gable of the main house has a four-light mullioned window with chamfered mullions, and a modern casement in the attic with a 17th-century straight hood mould above. Internally, there's a large inglenook fireplace, exposed ceiling beams, and a collar and tie beam roof truss.
