Description
The cowhouse and granary, located about 20 yards west-northwest of Upper Lower House Farmhouse, is likely from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with a roof made of stone slate and corrugated iron. The building is one and a half storeys high and consists of three bays, featuring three evenly spaced entrances. The central doorway is chamfered, and there are ledged doors on the front gable end, with a pitching door above the center. To the right side, there is a small oak-framed two-light window. Inside, the structure has a very wide span, typical for the area, which requires three rows of purlins and includes raking struts to the rafters. The arrangement of three entrances is a common feature in this region, as seen in the cowhouse at Upper House Farmhouse in Bacton.
