Description

Rock Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, which was restored in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill set on a coursed rubble plinth and has a machine tile roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with an external gable-end stack on the south side. The front facing the street has two storeys, with a jettied first floor supported by a tie-beam. Each floor has a 2-light casement window, which has been inserted where projecting windows once were; the sills of these original windows remain on scroll brackets. The chamfered jetty bressummer is also supported by scroll brackets. The gable end features 19th-century barge-boards. The entrance is located in the west wall. The framing consists of four square panels high, with the north gable-end truss supported by three struts to the collar, V-struts in the apex, and trenched purlins.
