Description

Richard's Castle is a ruined motte and bailey castle, likely dating from the 14th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble. There are approximately 15 metres of wall remaining on the north side of the bailey, with a short stretch of wall on the south side that climbs the slope of the motte, which is about 5.5 metres high. Both sections feature a series of put-log holes. At the south-east gate, there is a small fragment of walling that lacks any recognizable features. The site is scheduled as an Ancient Monument, with County Number 116.
