Description

Court House Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 17th century, with later modifications made from the late 17th century to early 18th century, a late 18th-century extension, and some early 20th-century alterations. The building has a T-plan layout, with a cross-wing aligned north to south, which was extended to the south in the 18th century, while the other range to the west has been shortened. There is a stack located at the junction of the two ranges.

The east front of the farmhouse features two storeys above a cellar. The 18th-century extension on the left has two 2-light casement windows with segmental heads, and a canted bay window on the ground floor. The 17th-century portion of the building is jettied and includes a 3-light casement window above two boxed glazing bar sashes, along with a gable-lit attic. The entrance is located in the north wall and is accessed through a 20th-century lean-to porch.

The framing of the cross-wing is jettied on the north, east, and south sides, although the south side is obscured by the 18th-century wing. It features a moulded bressummer and scroll brackets, with the framing consisting of two rectangular panels high on the ground floor and three square panels high on the first floor. The north gable has two collars with nibbed curved braces in the square panels, while the other range has four square panels high with straight angle braces.

Inside, the north-east room showcases early 18th-century panelling, complete with a moulded cornice and dado-rail, and a fireplace flanked by fluted pilasters. There is a panelled cupboard in the south-west corner that incorporates splat-balusters. The main staircase has been rebuilt but includes some 17th-century turned balusters. The north-east room is lined with re-set panelling, and the overmantel features a painted wooden panel from the late 17th to early 18th century, depicting the nine Muses and Pegasus on a distant hill.
