Description
Lower House Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone early 19th-century and late 20th-century alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, with some parts rebuilt in painted brick, all under a tiled roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with wings extending to the north and east, and has two lateral stacks on the west wall of the north wing.
The west front is two storeys high and has five windows, all of which are 2-light casements, except for the window to the left, which has three lights. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement with a central entrance. The entrance is framed by a 17th-century timber-framed porch that has a dentilled tie-beam supported by scroll brackets, with the truss featuring two curved and nibbed struts. The bargeboards date from the 17th century and are decorated with dentilling, while the finial includes a carved pendant.
