Description
Stawne is a house dating from the late 16th century, with some repairs from the mid-19th century and early 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a coursed rubble plinth, topped by a tile roof. The building has two framed bays oriented east to west and includes a lateral stack on the north wall made of rubble, with a brick shaft that has projecting diagonal ribs.
The east front facing the street is two storeys high, gabled, and jettied. It has a 2-light casement window above a 3-light casement window, with the entrance located in the south wall. The framing includes a moulded jetty bressummer that is supported by 20th-century posts and features 16th-century curved brackets rising from pilasters. The wall frame consists of two square panels high to the first floor and is close-studded with a mid-rail at the ground floor. The gable truss is close-studded below the collar and has two raking struts above. The side wall frames also have close-studding over square panels, with straight angle braces at the centre.
