Description
Holgate Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that was extended in the mid-19th century and has undergone some repairs in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from coursed rubble and features a hipped slate roof. At the rear, there are two main chimney stacks with brick shafts.
The south front of the farmhouse has two storeys and includes a central two-storey crenellated porch. This porch contains a 2-light casement window, with a 3-light casement window on either side, all of which are topped with segmental heads that have keystones. The outer arch of the entrance features a semi-elliptical head with plain impost blocks. Behind this, the doorway is framed by a plain wooden architrave and has a ledged and boarded door.
Inside, the staircase is notable for its flat moulded balusters, moulded handrail, and closed string. Additionally, there are some exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
