Description
The Mary Philpotts headstone is a chest tomb located approximately 7 meters south of the chancel arch of the Church of St Deinst. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded plinth and capping with dentilled detail. It has lyre-shaped, scrolled end panels that flank rectangular long sides adorned with an egg and dart surround. The central inscription panel is flanked by draped figures with double swags. This memorial commemorates Mary, the wife of John Philpotts of Llangunnock.
