Description

This chest tomb, located 37 yards south of the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, dates from the first quarter of the 19th century and is dedicated to the Philpots family. It is constructed from ashlar and features a moulded plinth and capping. The tomb has fluted corner balusters adorned with raised oval rosettes. The shaped inscription panels include corner rosettes, foliage upper borders, and pendant husk trails along the side borders. The inscriptions are in raised lettering, commemorating Thomas Philpots, who died in 1805, on the south side, and his wife Anne, who died in 1811, on the north side.
