Description

HUMBER CP SO 55 NW 2/84 Barn and cowhouse about 100 yards north-east of Risbury Court II

Barn and cowhouse. Mid-C18 with mid-C19 and late C20 alterations. Part timber-framed and weatherboarded on rubble base, part sandstone rubble with corrugated metal roofs. Barn is of seven framed bays aligned roughly east/ west. Wagon bay situated in fourth bay from west end and has opposed cart entries with double doors. C19 lean-to outshuts (probably shelter sheds) on swept arch-braced timber posts adjoin south side. Also C19 and C20 lean-to additions at west end and to north-west. Interior: wall-framing has mainly three rows of square panels from sill to wall-plate, also some large rectangular panels. Roof has collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, the intermediate trusses have raking struts. Cowhouse adjoins east gable end, continuing the main roofline, and is of three bays and two levels. There are some ventilation slits in the rubble part of the walls. Main north elevation has a double doorway and a loft opening. Interior: walls have either one row of panels at eaves level or three rows of panels from sill to wall-plate. Tie-beam trusses with decorative lattice struts at east end.
