Description

Little Maidenhyde is a 17th-century house that was extended around 1800 and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building features part timber framing with rendered infill on a rubble base, along with some painted brick replacement walling or refacing, and part sandstone rubble. It has plain tiled roofs and is designed in an L-plan. The original section consists of two framed bays aligned roughly east to west, with an intersecting single-bay rubble wing attached to the south side of the west bay, likely a rebuilding of a former hall range. At the south end of this wing, there is an external chimney with offsets and a brick stack.

The house has two storeys and an attic with dormers. The timber framing includes three rows of panels above the first floor level, long straight braces in the lower corners, short straight braces in the upper corners, and a collar and tie-beam truss at the east end. This truss features two struts beneath the collar and a decorative trefoil panel above it. The windows are 20th-century leaded casements.

On the east front elevation, the rubble section has two single-light windows on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor. The main entrance features a 20th-century gabled timber-framed porch and a re-used 17th-century ledged and battened door. The gable end of the framed section to the right includes a two-light window on the ground floor, two single-light windows on the first floor, and an attic light. There are also single-light windows on the ground and first floors in the angle with the rubble wing. A fire insurance mark from North Wales and Shropshire is attached to the rear of the rubble section. Inside, there are some moulded ceiling beams and a large fireplace in the rubble wing.
