Description

Lewstone Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a wing that remains from that period. The building was mainly remodeled during the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with part of the main front rendered, and features slate roofs, some of which are hipped at the rear.

The central range of the farmhouse is aligned north-west to south-east and faces north-east, flanked by forward projecting cross-wings, including a late 16th-century cross-wing to the north-west. The north-west return of the cross-wing has two lateral stacks, while there are additional stacks on the central range and the south-east wing. The entrance is located towards the north-west of the central range.

The farmhouse has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with a window arrangement of 1:2:1. It features 2-light cross-casement windows, some with leaded lights and flat arches on the first floor, and 3-light windows with cambered heads on the ground floor. The attics are lit by 2-light stone mullioned windows in the gables. The doorway, positioned right of center, has a canopy and a 4-panelled door. The north-west return of the cross-wing includes additional single light and 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows, many of which are now mostly blocked. The lateral stacks have been rebuilt with octagonal plan shafts, and there is a square-headed door leading to the basement, which has a heavy ledged door.
