Description
Ragged House is a house dating from the 17th century, with a south cross-wing added in the mid-19th century and alterations made in the 20th century. It features coursed and squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressing and a slate roof. The original 17th-century section is aligned north/south and faces west, while the mid-19th-century cross-wing is to the south, and there is a 20th-century altered granary extension to the north. The cross-wing encloses a former gable end stack, with an additional axial stack toward the north gable. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the north section (the former granary) being single storey and attic.
The 17th-century range has three windows; on the first floor, there are two-light stone mullioned windows flanking a central single-light window. On the ground floor, there are three-light stone mullioned windows with square hoodmoulds flanking a central 20th-century gabled porch that has a 20th-century ledged door. The north section has 20th-century inserted stone mullioned windows, with two single-light windows featuring hoodmoulds on the 19th-century gable end and another similar window in the attic of the gable. The interior has been altered, and the former outer doorway at the south gable end is now enclosed.
