Description
The Clock Tower in Whitchurch was built in 1867 and is a notable Victorian village feature. It is constructed of red brick with darker brick dressings and has a hipped pyramidal slate roof. The tower has a square plan and features an entrance on the south-east face. It consists of three stages, with a moulded plinth, a string course, and a modillion eaves cornice. The ground floor includes a semi-circular headed doorway, and above it is a niche with an inscription panel. The top stage displays a clock face and has gabled lucarnes on the roof. The inscription reads: "Erected/ in/ memory of/ William Panter/ John Leach/ Panter/ and their sisters/ by their sole/ remaining sister AD 1867."
