Description

Norton House is a former farmhouse, dating to 1716, with alterations made since. It is constructed of coursed and dressed sandstone rubble with slate roofs. The main range is aligned north-east to south-west, facing south-east, and it features a cross-wing to the north-east. The entrance is located in the main range, close to the angle with the cross-wing. There is a main axial stack, and a further stack on the cross-wing. The building is two storeys high, with a gable-lit attic and a basement.

The south-east face of the main range has two windows. These are glazing bar sashes, each with a flat arch. The south-west face of the cross-wing has one window range, and there is a series of windows in the gable end. The entrance has a 6-panelled door with a flat arch, and displays the date 1716 with decorative scroll motifs, which are also repeated in the keystones of the windows. Steps lead down to a basement doorway with an elliptical arch in the gable end of the cross-wing.

The north-east return of the building shows traces of two blocked 3-light mullioned windows, and a mullioned 2-light cellar window.
