Description
The Steps is a house that likely dates from the 18th century, with its roof raised in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill, partly underbuilt in brick, and has a slate roof with two brick stacks. The stack on the gable end, which faces away from the road, has a sandstone base and includes a bread oven. The building consists of two structural bays that are aligned roughly north to south and has a cellar with two storeys.
On the east elevation, there are two windows featuring 19th century wrought iron 2-light casements, with a small central casement located between the floors. There is also one mid-20th century casement on the right side. The first floor is underbuilt in brick and has a painted timber-framed effect. Access to the house is through a lean-to on the west rear side. The north gable displays curved braces at the tops of the corner posts, V-struts from the collar, and a ledged door leading to the cellar.
