8/60 Wainhouse about 60 yards west of Hellens

GV II

Wainhouse. Probably C18. Timber-frame with weatherboarding and tiled roofs. Two structural bays aligned roughly north/south. South elevation has gable end full-width entry, lean-to's to either side, central pitching-hole and subsidiary loft openings one to each lean-to, both lean-to's have catslide roofs. North elevation has a further lean-to. Frame of thin scantling designed for weatherboards is two panels high from cill to wall-plate, the upper panels being square and the lower vertical rectangles with occasional diagonal struts; trusses have central posts from ties to collars above which are V-struts. Forms part of farm group with nearby barns (qv), cider house (qv) and stable block (qv). Included for group value.
