Description
Wainhouse, located about 50 yards south-west of Old Court, is a building that likely dates from the 18th century but incorporates framing from the 17th century, with some later alterations. It features a timber frame set on a brick and sandstone plinth, topped with weatherboarding and a corrugated iron roof. The structure consists of seven bays arranged in an east-west orientation. The north elevation includes one square opening for a former loft and three gabled dormers. The bays are separated by oak posts, creating an open ground storey, except for one bay of weatherboarding to the left of center and another on the right side, which has a ledged door. The frame of the rear wall consists of three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. Inside, there are four trusses with two pairs of parallel raking struts. The second-to-last truss on the west side features two collars separated by two vertical posts, with the lower collar further separated from the tie by four additional vertical posts. One truss includes a 19th-century king-post that supports struts to the principals. The building is included for its group value.
