Barn/Cowhouse Range to Craffryn

Craffryn features a long, low farm range that includes a barn, cowhouse, and wainhouse, all under a single, steeply-pitched roof. The structure has a low rubble plinth and weatherboarded stud-walls, topped with a tin roof. On the north-west side, there are four boarded doors. The south-east elevation has an open-fronted wainhouse to the right of the barn and a part rubble-walled cowhouse end to the left.

The barn dates from the 18th century and consists of three bays with a central stone-flagged threshing floor. There is a single doorway that leads up steps on the north-west side. Inside, the barn features simple tie-beam trusses with angle braces, stud partition infill with horizontal boarding, and a low sole plate. The heavy stud-walls, which include diagonal braces interrupting the studs, extend into the cowhouse end and incorporate re-used box-framing timbers.

The cowhouse, also from the 18th century, has a cobbled floor, boarded stalls, ties for eleven animals, a transverse feeding passage, and a loose-box bay. The wainhouse was added later, possibly in the 19th century.
