Description

Craffryn is a farmhouse dating to 1849. A datestone from this year, now located in the garden, was removed when a chimney stack was added to the west end. The house replaces an earlier dwelling, which is now used as a farm store. It is constructed of coursed rubble blocks, with a low plinth, boxed eaves, deep verges, and a slate roof. Two brick end stacks are present. Steps lead to the centrally positioned front door, which is set within a heavy, chamfered, boarded and battened frame. The front elevation has a three-window arrangement, with all openings set beneath stone voussoir heads incorporating key blocks. Original multi-pane windows retain chamfered frames and iron opening casements. A brick porch is located at the rear.

The original layout includes a front kitchen, a central staircase, and a small parlour. At the rear are a dairy and scullery. The kitchen features a large open fireplace constructed of rubble stone, with a scroll-stopped timber lintel and an adjoining brick bread-oven.
